In the late eighties and early nineties CC and I managed an apartment house in W. Los Angeles.
No matter how I reach for reason I only find cheap excuse and evasion.. something bothersome from those who have nothing to offer but a lie..
As time passed I found the depths some folks will sink to.. this includes.. slandering.. making assumptions.. lying.. and all the other charming things folks will do in the name of the almighty dollar.
This one stuck in my craw because I was doing what I was hired to do.. protecting my landlord from fraud.. for one..
A woman of about 35 to 40 years named Pam T. and her daughter moved in. The rental application was taken by the landlady.
I think it is important at this point to mention our former next door neighbors before Pam T. The mother had a phobia. She made a career out of being black and blaming others for it. I tried to act as I felt and ignore her delusion.. in that time many folks did not speak their mind to other cultures. In fear of being labeled a ‘racist’ or ‘discriminatory’ they just kowtowed to some pretty ridiculous positions.
I do not recognize differences in culture as being racial.. so I speak my mind. The landlady.. from mainland China.. apparently was convinced by that wonderful family.. my neighbors, who’s 15-year-old son killed the mother of our kitten.. mother cat was just healing from an injury on our porch..perhaps a failed attempt by this person?.. her older son was just out of the penitentiary in Michigan?.. perhaps Illinois.. I am sympathetic but not a duck.. nor will I be called a name that is not mine..
Well when Ms. Pam T. and her daughter.. who was 18 but not old enough to speak.. according to her mother.. moved in on a Sunday giving a check for 2 months rent and damage deposit. The next day she stopped payment on the check.. siting her daughters ‘illness’ and her upstairs neighbors acoustic guitar playing as making noise therefore saying the apt. she rented was unlivable.
When I went to verify the scam artists tenant’s employment as ‘head of surgery at UCLA’ I had a hell of a time getting a response.. the reason was.. she was not a Dr. of any kind. She was the senior replacement typist in the typing pool for Surgery. Investigating further.. I found she had pulled the same stunt at the last apt. she infested. Left owing 7 months rent. Caused the manager there to lose his job.. he and his pregnant wife.. looking for lodging. According to written.. witnessed and notorized statements from this man and his wife.. they did the same thing with the weekend check dealy at the place before his.. Ms. Pam T.’s father was head of the Janitors’ Union.. in a large nearby city.
This was during the Rodney King reaction riots. I do think Mr. King was assaulted and beaten. I do think he deserved a settlement and apology. About the riot?.. no one in their right mind likes riots.. teens goose stepping down the street to memorized rap lyrics.. sang as cadence by the goose steppers.. a lousy time.. between that and the earthquake of ’91 one had to stay on top of it.
My opinion of this Pam T. person was.. ’pay the rent.. pony up your occupation’.. she went into court saying I harassed her.. she had a lot of nerve.. or she was just out of her mind.. she was impossible to speak with.. much less harass.. as I believe the young female judge was not seeing clearly.. she had conspiring felons in her courtroom and was disallowing any evidence I brought and made legal motion to admit.
Unfair.. stupid.. and found by my reasearch to be a direct result, in many ways, of folks for centuries setting an exploitive stage with no fabric beyond laziness and greed.. in a word., slavery and self-importance for the poor whites..
Landlords beware.. managers beware.. in those days I would have said.. ’just because you are uncomfortable with another culture is not an excuse to accept what you know to be a lie’.. and I did.. I was evicted.. fun stuff from the lie of racism.. and those who exploit it.. extending the fallacy of ‘race’.. extended to the young folks who.. for centuries had to hang their heads.. never knowing why.. which is fair.. since there is no reason.. thus no why..
My rant of some years gone.. I hope that fatheaded lady (both of them) find reason.. seems example for her daughter would be reason enough for the scam artist.. the landlady?..nuts..Peace Tony
