Want to share this. Huddy Ledbetter was a black saloon singer. He played all over the South. He played in Texas and California. He loved the ladies and had a reputation that said they loved him. One night after playing cards, music and gettin’ a drunk on..Huddy and a friend were walking home..they were in a drain ditch by the side of the road headin’ away from town..back to home. His friend had a woman. His friend thought Huddy had ‘gotten down’ with his woman. His friend shot Huddy in the stomach. Huddy killed him. That is obviously why ‘Ledbelly’. He wrote so many songs that one may know..’Goodnight Irene’, ‘Midnight Special’, ‘Nobody Knows the Trouble I’ve Seen’. The list was as long as this man’s fingers. He played a 12 string guitar..could make it sound like a player piano. He did time in prison..he wrote many a song there. When the Governor came to visit he asked ‘Leadbelly’ to play a song for him..indicating good things if he liked it..’Leadbelly’ played ‘I Got Grasshoppers in My Pillow’..for the Gov. The Gov. set Leadbelly free.
Here is one of his songs..http//www.youtube.com/watch?:feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=dCS0w9RLDfA
